Looniee vs Snowball Analytics (2026): dividend tracking, or registered-account room

Snowball Analytics is a dividend tracker with a big following and a dedicated Canada page. Looniee is a Canadian tracker built around TFSA, RRSP, FHSA and RESP room. We make Looniee, so read this with that in mind. If dividends are the reason you open a tracker, Snowball may well be the better choice, and this page says where.

What Snowball Analytics does better

Dividend tooling. This is Snowball's centre of gravity. It has a dividend calendar, yield and yield on cost, a dividend rating and a custom withholding-tax setting. Looniee's Income tab tracks dividends per account and estimates withholding, but it doesn't have a dividend calendar or rating.

Broker linking. On Starter and up, Snowball links brokerages through aggregators (its pages name Yodlee and SnapTrade), and its Canada page says it imports dividends automatically from more than 1,000 brokers. Looniee never links; every new trade is an import or something you type.

Phone apps. Snowball has iOS and Android apps. Looniee works in a phone browser but has no app-store app.

Analytics for active investors. Performance including IRR, multi-period analytics, benchmarks, backtests and a rebalance tool are all on Snowball's pricing page. Looniee Plus has drift, benchmarks and look-through analytics, but not backtests.

A longer, card-free trial. Snowball's trial is 14 days without a card. Looniee's Plus trial is 3 days and needs one.

What Looniee does better

Contribution room. Snowball's Canada page covers TSX holdings, RRSPs and TFSAs in Canadian dollars, but it doesn't document room tracking, and FHSAs and RESPs aren't mentioned. Looniee works out room from the rules: TFSA withdrawals come back on January 1 of the next year, the RRSP's $2,000 over-contribution buffer, the FHSA's $8,000 carry-forward cap and RESP grant catch-up. Each person in a household gets their own figure.

Priced in Canadian dollars. Snowball says "All prices are in USD," so a Canadian card pays the exchange rate on top. Looniee Plus is priced in CAD.

Canadian capital gains. Looniee Plus calculates average-cost ACB pooled across your non-registered accounts, converting USD trades at each trade's own exchange rate, and flags superficial losses. Canadian ACB isn't documented on Snowball's pages.

Nothing linked, nothing to break. Some of Snowball's low-star Trustpilot reviews (read October 1, 2026) describe broker connections failing or imports bringing in wrong numbers. That comes with aggregation generally, not with one company. Looniee has no connection to fail and nothing holding a link to your accounts.

A household. Looniee Plus tracks up to 6 people in one login, each with their own room. Snowball's free plan and Starter plan are one portfolio each, and household features aren't documented.

On withholding tax

Both products care about withholding, and they come at it differently. Snowball lets you set custom withholding tax. Looniee's free Income tab works it out from where the company is based and which account holds it, so a US-domiciled stock in an RRSP is treated as exempt under the treaty, the same stock in a TFSA loses 15%, and a Canadian company listed in New York isn't docked at all. Our guide to US withholding tax by account explains the rules.

On price

Snowball's Starter plan is US$7.99 a month or US$79.99 a year, and Investor is US$14.99 a month or US$149.99 a year. Looniee Plus is CA$9/mo, or CA$72/yr (CA$6/mo), in Canadian dollars. Both have a free plan. Snowball's covers 1 portfolio and 10 holdings without broker linking; Looniee's covers 3 accounts, 10 holdings, 500 transactions.

Moving from Snowball to Looniee

Export your transactions from each broker and import them into Looniee: see how to export from Wealthsimple and how to export from Questrade. For room, start from the figure in CRA My Account, or check it first with the free TFSA contribution room calculator.

Questions

Does Snowball Analytics work in Canada?
Yes. It has a Canada page that covers TSX stocks and ETFs, RRSPs, TFSAs and margin accounts, with performance in Canadian dollars, and help articles for importing from Wealthsimple and Questrade. Its prices are in US dollars.
Does Snowball track TFSA or RRSP contribution room?
We didn't find room tracking on its pages (checked October 20, 2026). It tracks RRSP and TFSA accounts, which isn't the same as tracking how much room you have left. Ask Snowball if that matters to you, and check CRA My Account for the official figure.
Which is better for dividend investors?
Snowball, if dividends are the main thing you track. Its calendar, yield-on-cost and rating go further than Looniee's Income tab. Looniee is the better fit when the dividends sit inside registered accounts and the room in those accounts is what you need to manage.
Does Looniee link to my brokerage?
No. Looniee never asks for a broker or bank password. You import the CSV or Excel file your broker lets you download, upload a screenshot, or type holdings in. Prices update automatically; trades don't.

Snowball Analytics's prices and features were checked on its own website on October 20, 2026. Products change, so check anything that matters to you before you choose either one.
